The Seduction of Plastic

Okay, call me a time management freak, stuck in my old ways or just plain lackadaisical but I come from the generation that was seduced by the convenience of plastic…plastic containers, plastic wrap, plastic bags and plastic cutlery.

The Courtney Room

After opening in May, The Courtney Room restaurant at Victoria’s Magnolia hotel has already made the list of Top Ten Best Restaurants in Victoria by Diners’ Choice.
The Clients asked BBA to create a restaurant with a modern take on French bistro that would differ but be timeless in it’s approach and uphold the classic experience of the award-winning boutique hotel that it is associated with.

Pier West

The Pier West Presentation Centre was completed earlier this spring. The cool blue and white tones of the main gallery designed in collaboration with Vancouver’s Letterbox reflect the scale and monumentality of this modern architectural development

The Paper Pendant Challenge

The paper pendant challenge has become an annual event, one that celebrates design, creativity, and spontaneous thinking within a festive environment. 21 designers came together for this unique opportunity; to design a pendant light using only a single sheet of 24” × 36” watercolor paper and limited tools. The competition was hosted by Vancouver’s own Symmetry Lighting in concert with Seattle based LightArt Studio, a creative lighting design fabrication house owned by 3Form and Gray Magazine. Each contestant is allowed 30 minutes of pendant creating madness!

What We've Been Up To

2018. Here we are again….too busy to keep up up with our newsletter and stay on top of all the various social media networks.  However our goal is expedite a quick update to let you know that we’ve survived the snow and are still going strong!
BBA has completed or is continuing to work on several exciting projects that commenced in 2017

Park Residences at Minoru

Late winter saw the completion of the Park Residences at Minoru, a 89 unit residential market tower and a 132 unit rental tower.
Along with a great client, BBA Design Consultants worked with W.T. Leung Architects and Ledcor to achieve a successful residential project.

Renovating an Older Condo

In March of 2016 I started looking for a new home. As part of the BBA Design team I have worked on several fantastic projects and have seen some pretty amazing spaces so I had a very good idea of the space that I wanted to create for myself. The decision to buy an older condo and renovate was a quick one. How could a designer pass up the chance to renovate a condo!

This spring saw the launch of Ellsworth by Chard Development. A ten storey, mixed-use residential development on Main Street in Vancouver’s vibrant Mount Pleasant neighborhood.

Rethink, Reassign & Redesign

What lead me to begin this rant in the first place is the proliferation of magazines, ads, catalogues and e-blasts advertising the latest products that we consumers apparently seem to need.

Navio Ensuite

When the design team started to conceptualize the model home for the second phase at The Creek, Navio – building 3 and 4, the ensuite bathroom was realized as a timeless oasis within these beautifully appointed Concert homes.

A Roman Holiday

A recent trip to Rome this past December proved to be artistically as well as culturally rewarding…in a modern way. Having done little to no prior research we decided to rely on a few noteworthy travel guides.

A Refreshing Makeover

This is a story about the renovation of an antiquated lobby and suite corridors of a 1972 rental apartment building in North Vancouver. Up for the challenge and with the encouragement of an enthusiastic client this once ugly duckling is transformed into a soaring eagle…well you get the picture. See Design Challenge below for photos and overview.

arrow img BBA Tip: Old Art, New Space

Many clients are concerned about being able to utilize their existing artwork after having renovated their space. What to do with their old art? Storing or selling your art is the last thing most of us want to do. Rather than retiring your existing pieces, we find it is often possible to integrate existing pieces by just providing new treatments, i.e.: fresh matting and framing to best suit the new space.

arrow img Honouring Our Past

We are in the process of launching the Versatile Presentation Centre at the corner of Esplanade and Lonsdale in North Vancouver. This 62-unit residential project derives its name from the venerable Versatile Pacific Shipyards. Helmed by Intracorp, this ocean-themed development is already attracting attention from potential buyers eager to partake in the unique vibe Lower Lonsdale has to offer. Versatile will actually be situated at Third and Lonsdale, right in the heart of the exciting new growth currently taking place in North Vancouver.

arrow img Spicing Up the Summertime

BBA is busy preparing the Presentation Centre for The Salt Condominiums, a new 192-unit residential development slated for the old Ticketmaster site at 1304 Hornby Street. This is a concrete highrise in the new Downtown South area. This neighbourhood is experiencing not only growth, but a new-found sense of identity. We expect the project’s colours of mango and mai-tai to not only spice up the summer, but add flavour to the new Downtown South as well! Watch for the Presentation Centre’s opening later this month.

arrow img Quintet; Phase I Has Sold Out!

arrow img Display Suites Abound: Current Projects

We're in full effect, working on Penthouse Display Suites located at Patina, downtown for Concert Properties. You'll also see us at the Tatton Display Home located on Burke Mountain in Coquitlam for Mosaic Development.
